SharePoint 2007 - Creating a Simple Site

First we create a site collection in the default web application.

Open the SharePoint Central Administration Page. Click on Application Management, and then Click on Create Site Collection.

Clcik on the Web Application Url on the right, and then click Change Web Application. Select the Default application, in my case SharePoint 80.

Enter a Title, such as My SharePoint Site. For the Web Site Address, click the Drop-Down box and select /sites/ then add the bit of the Url that identifies your site, such as myfirstsite.

Under template Selection click on Blank Site, then add a User Name for the Primary Administrator, probably you.

Click OK. You'll then get a screen telling you that your site has been created. It will show the Url for your site. Click on the Url. You now see your (empty) site.
